Treat Periodontal Disease with Natural Remedies

Posted on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 in Dental Care, Health

Periodontitis develops when bacteria run amuck and no treatment is applied to the infection.  As the disease advances, you are exposed to more risks and complications among which is loss of teeth.  It may not be obvious but a simple gum disease may lead to coronary artery disease, stroke and respiratory problems, among others.  Studies show that the bacteria that cause gum infections could pass through the blood stream and upset vital organs in our system.  To prevent further complications when gum infection sets in, periodontitis treatment should be sought.

Changing your lifestyle may also aid in alleviating gum infections and thwart its development into periodontitis.  If you are a smoker, you’d probably start to think of quitting.  Staying away from tobacco products would greatly improve the health of your mouth thus lessening the chances of bacteria invading your oral cavities.  A smoker is likely to have more calculus than nonsmokers.  Smoking also causes deep pockets between the gums and teeth making it conducive place for bacteria to thrive.

Periodontal disease treatment should start with the ever reliable brush, floss and mouth rinse regimen.  Proper oral hygiene can keep the bacteria away in the first place.  However when there are instances that gum infection does start-off, keeping up with the rigid and proper oral sanitation could begin the cleansing of bacteria.  Seek professional advice of your dentist or oral hygienist in order to combat the bacteria appropriately.  Proper care will prevent further growth of the infection which may cause undue menace to your overall health.

Proper nourishment is also necessary to combat periodontal disease.  Lack of vitamin C or ascorbic acid exhibits spongy gums which could activate the bacteria and their uncontrollable growth leads to gum infections.   Undernourished system may not only be prone to gum infections but other medical risks, as well.  Great sources of natural vitamin C are guava, lemon and lime, oranges, spinach juice.  The latter is also a good source of vitamins A and K which is essentially good for the body to fight diseases.  These are the few natural remedies that you could try to keep periodontitis at bay.

Careful choice of food and drinks will contribute significantly to one’s health.  Tea, coffee and alcoholic drinks should be avoided to treat gum infections.  If these cannot be avoided, make sure you are able to brush your teeth.  For further prevention, you may also try taking in warm water enema when you are in the juice diet.   These are a few of the home remedies you can take to ward of gum infections.
